Public Liability
This provides a cover of up to £10,000,000 any one accident for bodily injury or damage to property as a result of an accident. Cover includes advice given for a fee. It is important to realise that the public liability cover applies only where there is a legal liability, such as created by negligence. The mere fact of injury or damage does not necessarily mean that a successful claim can be made.
The activities covered are as follows:
- Swimming Teaching;
- Life Saving;
- First Aid;
- Defibrillation;
- Life Guarding;
- Water exercise and therapy;
- The provision and running of swimming teaching, pool plant operation and manual handling courses, educational courses related to sports and recreational safety.
Note that cover for criminal acts such as abuse, maltreatment, rape, molestation and similar is never provided.
The geographical limits are the UK including Northern and Southern Ireland, and the Falkland Islands. UK jurisdiction cover is provided for UK members who are temporarily abroad and carrying out the activities listed above.
Potential or actual claims must be notified promptly to the STA. Please keep a detailed written record of what happened, who was involved, and details of any injuries. Photographs (even those taken on a mobile phone) can be of great use.
